Christmas in us

Let him Christmas in us... These words unexpectedly came to me while I was praying last night. They are, of course, a variation on some words by Gerard Manley Hopkins: Let Him easter in us, be a dayspring to the dimness of us, be a crimson-cresseted east...

So let him Christmas in us...
Let him be born in us, take form in us...
eyes filled with compassion,
generous hands,
wise head, open heart...
Let him be known in us,
welcome outcasts through us...
Let him be small in us, tender and humble in us...
Let him be light in us, give joy through us, forgive and create peace and justice through us...
Let him pray in us, play in us,
love and serve in us...
Let him be gift in us as he is gift to us...
Let him live in us and find a home in us
now and always...

One day he will also suffer in us, weep and be hurt in us, but for now, for today, we can enjoy him simply Christmas-ing in us...

Happy Christmas everyone
