I have a great liking for the Visitation, which we would normally have celebrated yesterday. It's full of joy and love and hope, with depths and layers of meaning which repay regular revisiting.
The other day I was re-reading Rejoice! the letter to all religious from the Vatican for the Year of Consecrated Life. You can read the full letter here. The final few paragraphs are dedicated to Mary, with a special focus on the Visitation. Here are some extracts - may you find them as inspiring and energising as I do!
Alongside Mary joy expands. The Son she carries in her womb is the God of joy, of contagious, engaging delight. Mary throws open the doors of her heart and runs to Elizabeth...
In Mary the Church is all who journey together: in the love of those who go out to the most fragile; in the hope of those who know that they will be accompanied in their going out and in the faith of those who have a special gift to share. In Mary each one of us, driven by the wind of the Spirit, fulfils our own vocation to move out!
